The January 2021 Intersections Science Fellows Symposium was held virtually from January 6th - January 8th, 2021.

Keynote Speakers

Dr. Kafui Dzirasa is a renowned physician-scientist and neurobiologist. He is the K. Ranga Rama Krishnan Associate Professor Associate Professor at Duke University who focuses on understanding how changes in the brain produce neurological and mental illness. His ultimate goal is to combine his research, medical training, and community experience to improve outcomes for diverse communities suffering from Neurological and Psychiatric illness.

 

Dr. Kizzmekia S. Corbett is a distinguished immunologist and current leader of the Coronavirus Vaccines & Immunopathogenesis Team at the NIH. Her research focuses on developing novel coronavirus vaccines. Dr. Corbett’s team designed the mRNA-1273 vaccine concept against COVID-19 that was rapidly deployed to industry partner Moderna, Inc and has now been FDA-approved.

 

Dr. H. Holden Thorp is a distinguished and well-known scientist, entrepreneur and current Editor-in-Chief of the Science family of journals. His research interests revolve around the improvement of medicine pharmacological therapies for AIDS and cancer, which led him to co-found Viamet Pharmaceuticals, and serve as a venture partner, consultant and on the board of directors of other pharmaceutical companies.
